Who Dat? We Dat!
Lines formed hours before the national televised event in Jackson Square with “Who Dats” wearing their best Saints apparel while hoping to get a glimpse of the Dave Matthews Band and Taylor Swift. Even a brief shower could not dampen the anticipation of the estimated 150,000 people waiting their turn to enter the NFL Kickoff Concert held in the French Quarter of New Orleans this “muggy” September afternoon.
Fans found their place and television instructions were given and practiced…. and the show began with the Dave Matthews Band taking the stage an hour before the live telecast to the thrill of everyone longing for the party to begin. Like New Orleans needed a reason to throw a party!
Promptly at 5:00 P.M. the energy level increased as Taylor Swift took her place on the stage to sing her newest single, “Mine.” Because this was live TV, there was a break between Taylor’s returning to sing her signature song, “You Belong With Me.” See, portions of the Kickoff Parade (Mardi Gras Style) were scripted to pass in front of the stage between her performances.
The Dave Matthews returned to end the show sharing the stage with local favorites, Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews and 2nd Line Band, Orleans Avenue, while those in the Louisiana Superdome watched the New Orleans Saints take the field as their Super Bowl XLIV Championship banner was being unveiled to the Who Dat nation and the world in anticipation of their first step on the road to "Repeat Dat!"
The NFL knew this would be a hit, proving once again the #1 place to throw a party is New Orleans... Just Saying!
